Ray
Booth and Roy Mattocks both received their 50 year
service awards from the North West Area Brass Banding
Association. The awards were presented to them at
the annual High Peak District Contest held in Buxton,
Derbyshire by the area President Dr. Roy Newsome.
Both
Ray and Roy started playing for Poynton in 1948
on Tenor Horn, Roy still plays with the band on
Eb Bass and Ray although now retired from playing
due to ill health serves as the band's President.
Speaking
afterwards Roy said "I thought something was
a little strange in so much as the band insisted
that I attended the results which I normally avoid
and when I entered the hall my wife was there".
