Kevin Gibbs
Musical Director

Born in South Wales, Kevin Gibbs already has an impressive list of honours to his name having been a highly successful Principal Trombone player, featured soloist and multiple National Brass Band Championship winner with world famous brass bands such as Brighouse and Rastrick, Williams Fairey and Black Dyke Mills.

Kevin is currently a full time music teacher at Smithills School in Bolton where he also directs the Senior Trombone Ensemble in addition to tutoring the Trombone section of the internationally acclaimed Senior Brass Band.

In 1998 Kevin moved to the legendary Black Dyke Mills Band as Principal Trombone, yet again winning the Yorkshire Area Contest (Montage). Subsequently appointed as a music teacher to Towneley High School in Burnley, Kevin took a break from Championship banding but became the highly successful Musical Director of the Burnley Alliance and BMP Europe Goodshaw bands. On returning to South Wales, Kevin resumed his playing career as Principal Trombone with the Thomas Coaches Mid-Rhondda Band and was duly awarded the title of Best Soloist for the next two years at the Mine Workers Eisteddfod and the West Wales Contests of 1999 and 2000.

In 2000 Kevin became Musical Director of the Newbridge and Celynen Band during which time the band only failed to win a top prize on one occasion in nine highly successful contest appearances. In 2002 he accepted his current teaching post at Smithills School, once more taking him back to the North West and resulting in offers from many of the very top bands in the area to return to Championship Section playing. In January 2003 Kevin accepted the position of Principal Trombone with the National Champion Williams Fairey Band, although he first recorded a new solo on CD with the Brighouse and Rastrick band. Having qualified for the Royal Albert Hall 2003 National Finals with Williams Fairey, Kevin once again took part in the winning performance playing Variations on an Enigma. Having changed its name to the Fairey (fp Music) Band, Kevin was a featured soloist on the acclaimed CD Virtuosi before leaving the band in 2004 and taking up the position of Musical Director of the Flixton Band.

As a conductor, soloist and teacher, Kevin has performed all over the World from Sweden to Switzerland and Germany to New Zealand and Australia. He remains in constant demand as a Trombone player and looks forward to many more highly successful years as a conductor, player and teacher.
