Banding High:- Being responsible for the 'demolition' of the Free Trade Hall (Manchester) following his over enthusiastic attempt to reach a top Db during a performance of Trittico and failing… Alan Lawton was especially pleased!

Banding Low:- Coming second in the National Finals (at the Royal Albert Hall) in the old second section, especially when the band that won it was Welsh, there was a Welsh adjudicator, the composer was Welsh and the test piece was based on 'Variations of the Welsh National Anthem'!!! mmmm…

Ambition:- to be able to 'double and triple tongue properly'… Any ideas?

Ray Booth
President

Ray joined the band in 1948 playing tenor horn. Unfortunately, his playing career was cut short in 1987 (some 39 years service), when he had to retire due to ill health. (His eye sight deteriorated rapidly with a rare and incurable problem).

He became a trustee of the band in 1980 and soon after his retirement from playing became the bands President.

Anyone committed for over 50 years to any organization commands the respect and admiration of all involved. We, the members of the band, are no exception.

Ray supports the band in all it's endeavors and travels the length and breadth of the country supporting our concerts. He even travels with us on our continental tours.

Ray is a loyal and valued member of the VBS Poynton Brass Band. His work for the band is greatly appreciated. Thanks Ray!

Allan Nutton
Contest Secretary

Allan became involved with the Poynton Youth Brass Band in about 1984 as Librarian. Two years later he became involved with the VBS Poynton Band as Librarian.

Shortly afterwards he took on the responsibility of the Contest Secretary and the Registration Secretary.

Both posts he still holds today.
