Solo Trombone
Born
- St Andrews, Fife, Scotland.
Started
playing age 9 with Buckhaven Town Band under W. Ross (Still
alive and Teaching). James Gourlay was also in the same band
under the same instructor. Reached the position of Solo Cornet
at the age of 10 and a half years.
Moved
to Bedworth (Midlands) when 12 and joined the Bedworth Silver
Band as a 2nd cornet player. At that time James Watson was
on principle cornet. Progressed via Baritone to Euphonium.
Joined
the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers aged 15 as a junior bandsman
and started at the Royal Military School of Music in 1971
studying Trombone. Joined the Adult band in 1972 in Gibraltar
and took over the Solo Trombone seat. Remained on solo trombone
until demob in 1994.
Joined
the Goodshaw band after leaving the army as Solo Trombone
and Conductor. Moved on to the Walkden Band before moving
on to the British Aerospace (Chadderton) band in 1998. Joined
the Wingates Band in 1999 on 2nd Trombone before moving on
to the VBS (Poynton) band in May 2001 on Solo Trombone.
