Tim Brocklehurst

Tim Brocklehurst

Soprano Cornet

Tim started playing in 1979 on cornet: After passing his Grade 3, he was told by his music teacher (and Tim quotes), "Because you are a big ugly lad with no style, then Tuba will be the ideal instrument for you"!!. So Tim turned his potential talents to the Bass section.

He passed Grade 4 on Eb Tuba and won his one and only soloist prize by playing “The Ploughboy”

Tim decided that carrying Tuba on the bus every day wasn't for him, so took up Tenor Horn and passed his Grade 5, and continued playing with Sale Concert Band.

In 1983 he gave up playing to concentrate on other pursuits.

In 1991 Tim got the "banding bug" again and started taking banding more seriously. In 1996 He took cornet lessons with John Drover, "What an amazing man. I learnt more just from playing a duet with this guy than I ever learnt in a band." says Tim. John was still practicing 2 hours a day and was in his 80's at the time!

In 2007 took up the challenge of playing Soprano Cornet and moved to Poynton band in November 2010 in order to play the Sop part for Paganini Variations at the Regional Contest in February 2011.

Tim's has played as a regular member or as a dep with a number of other bands in the area including Central Manchester Band, East Manchester Band, Trafford Band, Elmfield Brass, Flixton Band, Bollington Brass Band, Silk Brass and Eccles Borough Band.
