Alex Fairhall
Principal Cornet
Alex stepped into the role of Principal Cornet in 2026, having originally joined the Poynton Band in 2024 as 'bumper up'. He recently demonstrated his fantastic leadership qualities by leading the band on stage and the streets at the Whit Friday marches, helping secure excellent results.
I am very excited to take on the mantle of Principal Cornet at Poynton and look forward to leading the band to more wins in the future.
Musical Background
Alex’s musical journey began at the age of seven when he first picked up his dad’s cornet. He developed his skills through the Stockport Schools Brass Band (SSBB), eventually progressing to the front row of their senior band. Highlights of his time with SSBB include several memorable European tours.
Alongside his role at Poynton, Alex is a dedicated young musician who also showcases his talents on the front row of the Greater Manchester Youth Brass Band (GMYBB).
Beyond the Bandroom
When he isn't practicing, Alex is busy studying for his A-Levels in Mathematics, Law, and Graphic Design. He is also a keen football fan and regularly enjoys watching and supporting Stockport County Football Club.
