Cosmic Melodies: Poynton Band & Churches Together Cheadle Raise Over £500 for Christian Aid
Following the success of our 2025 movie-themed fundraiser, the Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band returned to the stage on Saturday, 9 May 2026 for another unforgettable evening of grand music and community fundraising at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church..
Presented in association with Churches Together, this year’s concert - Echoes of the Cosmos - took our audience on a symphonic odyssey across the stars, all in support of Christian Aid. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of everyone who attended and donated, we are delighted to share that the event raised over £500 for Christian Aid’s vital work worldwide.
A Musical Odyssey Through the Stars
Echoes of the Cosmos offered a curated narrative charting a course from the familiar atmosphere of Earth’s "Blue Marble" through the star-dense clusters of the deep Milky Way, eventually reaching the paradoxical edge of a black hole - the Event Horizon.
The band brought the grandeur of space to life with powerful brass arrangements of classical masterpieces, including selections from Gustav Holst’s The Planets and the prehistoric weight of Richard Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra. The acoustic setting of Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church provided the ideal venue for such soaring, dramatic works, creating an extraordinary atmosphere from the opening notes to the final applause.
Impacting Lives Worldwide
The funds raised throughout the evening directly benefit Christian Aid’s global mission. From delivering urgent disaster relief to building long-term community resilience, combating poverty, and supporting sustainable development, every pound contributed helps transform lives in vulnerable regions around the world.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Putting together a production of this scale takes a wide team effort. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to:
Our Audience: Thank you for filling the hall, joining us on this interstellar musical journey, and giving so generously to the collection.
Churches Together Cheadle: Thank you for your invaluable collaboration, organization, and dedication to the cause.
Volunteers: Thank you for your support throughout the evening.
The Band: Thank you for the weeks of rehearsal and dedication needed to tackle such a complex and ambitious programme.
Echoes of the Cosmos demonstrated once again how music can connect us to something bigger - not only across the expanse of the universe, but right here in our own community. Thank you for your continued support!
